Picturesque circular ashtray of French origin, dating back to the 1950s-1960s. Manufactured by the old Moulin des Loupes kilns of Orchies, in the Pas-de-Calais department, established in 1886 at the initiative of brothers Emile and Joseph L'Herminé Declercq, in a region of centuries-old ceramic tradition, the accessory shows on the light blue border several red advertising writings of the historical Bonal distillery of Saint-Laurent-du-Pont, in the Isére department, founded in 1865 by Hippolyte Bonal, formerly Brother Raphaël, and increasingly grown in fame and sales thanks, above all, to the success of its “Gentiane-Quina”, a corroborant aperitif made from gentian, quinine and Alpine herbs. Marked on the bottom with the typical Orchies wind mill and the digits «878.28.09» (a likely reference to the production batch), the article, with no faults to report, is sold in virtually perfect conditions: an absolute must-have for every collector of French-made advertising gadgets!
