Commemorative / Jubilee Medal "70 Years of the Soviet Armed Forces" (With Ribbon and Certificate) - USSR, 1988
Interesting Soviet commemorative medal dating back to the '80s of the past century. Established on 24th January 1988, the award celebrated the 70th anniversary of the founding of the Soviet Armed Forces, and was assigned, together with some veteran and retired staff categories, to all military personnel of army, air force and navy, in addition to Ministry of Internal Affairs and Committee for State Security troops, on active duty on 23rd February 1988. Manufactured in brass, the medal shows, on the recto, above the embossed dates Ā«1918Ā» and Ā«1988Ā», the profiles of an aviator, a sailor and a soldier, surrounded by a wreath of oak and laurel, and surmounted, on the top, by a star with hammer and sickle, on the verso, instead, the wording Ā«70 ŠŠŠ¢ ŠŠŠŠ Š£ŠŠŠŠŠ«Š„ Š”ŠŠ ДДДР» (ā70 Years of the Soviet Armed Forcesā), above a couple of crossed oak and laurel branches. Complete with its red-green-yellow-light blue ribbon, tightened around the pentagonal mount typical of Soviet awards, still fitted with the original certificate, released in 1988 to Arkadij IvanoviÄ Kirsanov by the draft board of the Perm-Sverdlovskij rajon, the medal is sold in perfect conservation conditions: a true killer deal for all post-1945 Soviet memorabilia collectors!
