British Army “Lamps Electric N.° 1” Individual Flashlight – C.H. Ltd. – WWII

Interesting individual electric torch, issued to the British Army during WWII. Provided with a special mobile curfew hood to direct the light beam towards the ground, the “Lamps Electric N.o 1” torch also featured a knob, right in front of the reflector, by which the light color could be changed, from transparent to light blue, for signaling purposes. The rotating switch on the head of the flashlight allowed a pulse use of the device, too, for communications in Morse code, whereas, on the back of the case, a sturdy brass clip permitted the attachment to the soldier's waist-belt: right on this last one, we still can find some historical markings, which read «Lamps Electric N.o 1 – C.H. LTD», reporting, as well, the classic British Broad Arrow («↑») punched by the War Department on each property of His Majesty. In very good general conditions, the flashlight, in which, at the moment, a replacement 6V bulb is mounted - due, for sure, to a postwar period reuse of the device as a bicycle lamp, with external dynamo connection -, preserves all its components intact, in addition to the suggestive brown factory varnish: a truly iconic piece, that any 1939-1945 British militaria collection should not miss!
