Couple of US Army āSmall First-Aid Dressing Carlisle Model" Packets - Aluminium Foil Wrapping, Without Waxed Cardboard - WWII
Introduced in 1943 to save on war strategic metals, this āeconomyā version of the Carlisle first aid packet, issued to the US Army, saw the sterile gauze wrapped inside a laminated aluminium paper sheet, in its turn inserted in a double waxed cardboard protection. Devoid, on the inside, of the sulfanilamide shaker-top envelope to be found in the previous variants, this generation of the kit brought in a new bandage type, still in linen, but brownish in color ā hence, the alternative designation of Small First-Aid Dressing and Packet First-Aid Field Brown Dressing. Produced by the American White Cross medical laboratories, with seats in New Rochelle (New York) and Cape Girardeau (Missouri), the specimens for sale, though lacking the outermost double cardboard wrapping, present themselves however in good general conditions: original and money-saving finds, interesting both for the reenactor and the āwornā pieces collector.
