US Army ā€œFirst-Aid Packet Carlisle Modelā€ - Red Tin Box, With Sulfanilamide (1942) - WWII

Rare specimen of ā€œmodifiedā€ Carlisle first aid packet, dating back to WWII. Manufactured in tin, with brass tear tab opening, the container, issued to every American soldier, included a linen bandage and a shaker-top envelope with sulfanilamide crystals, to scatter on wound surface in antibacterial function. Originally devoid of the antiseptic and finished in olive drab, in 1942 some Early-War kits, like this one, were repainted in the typical light red, precisely to highlight the addition of the bactericide: a provisional version, in short, waiting for a standardization, which would only come with the embossing, on the bottom of again olive drab containers, of the words Ā«with crystalline sulfanilamideĀ» (detail, not for nothing, absent on the piece for sale). Fund of store, the dressing presents itself in excellent conservation conditions, with just some wear signs on the varnish, due to the rubbing of the embossed details: a real treat for every collector of last World War's American militaria.
