Funny aluminium camping mess kit with hermetic seal, of French production, dating back to the 1930s. Entirely manufactured in aluminium by renowned hiking accessories industries “Le Grand Tétras” of Bellegarde-sur-Valserine (Ain), established in 1912 and still working nowadays, the container, designed for alimentary use, rectangular in shape, showed a foldable handle, a lid with inner rubber gasket, and sturdy sealing side closures. Complements like this, defined, in the catalogues of the time, boîtes de provisions, that is to say “provisions containers”, were originally conceived for hiking and leisure, but were commonly used by yard workers, too, and there were similar models issued to the military. In good preservation status, with only some traces of time on the box and a limited oxidation at the closure steel loops, the mess kit still bears the red label of the brand, and all the allure of an ancient way of camping, in which LEDs, snacks and synthetic materials were yet to come!
