Battery- / Dynamo-Powered Flashlight / Bicycle Lamp With Bombé Lens - Manufacture Française d’Armes et Cycles de Saint-Étienne - '30s
Interesting flashlight/bicycle lamp of French production, dating back to the late 1930s. Designed both for a hand hold and an attachment to the bike's head tube - through a stirrup riveted on the back -, the torch, of bronzed and glossy enameled steel, with lateral opening, allowed both a 4.5 V battery supply and a dynamo connection, by means of a threaded contact on the case side. Fitted, atop, with a practical va-et-vient sliding switch, the lantern, ferreted out in the 1939 catalogue of the Manufacture Française d’Armes et Cycles de Saint-Étienne - see photos -, assured a wide and intense light beam, thanks to its nickel-plated reflector and large convex lens, mounted in a protruding position. Worn-out by time and use, especially at the paint and on the inside, with some rusty components and points of corrosion perforations on the back, the lamp, although to restore - it's sold untested -, with its lever switch and its fantastic bombé lens - it's more unique than rare, nowadays, to find one in such conditions! -, preserves intact, nevertheless, all the allure of the time it comes from: a truly irresistible piece for all vintage sports gear lovers!
