Small cardboard box of 10 “Weisse Garde” chocolate cigarillos, dating back to the time of WWII. Now empty, the container, in excellent conservation conditions, shows, besides the manufacture logo (the S+B industries), a reproduction of the curious cigarillo-shaped sweets to find inside. On packet sides, we can still read: «10 WEISSE GARDE» and «leicht und bekömmlich», that is “light and digestible”. The inner side of the top repeats, in monochrome, the cover graphics, while, embossed on the case bottom, the types «E Z G U 1939» are to be found, indication, probably, of the item production year. Foodstuff like these, in wartime, were often distributed to frontline troops as Christmas Führergeschenk (“Führer's present”): a little piece of history, then, that, in its simplicity, tells us about daily life at the front, and precious moments of lightheartedness amidst despair.
